Nikki Glaser is set to host the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will air live on CBS on Sunday, Jan. 5 (8-11 p.m. ET/5-8 p.m. PT).
Glaser is the first woman to host the Globes solo in recent years. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted together four times (2013-15, 2021), and actress Sandra Oh hosted in 2019 alongside comedian Andy Samberg.
Glaser, 40, is nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) as executive producer and star of the HBO special. Someday You’ll DieThe award will be presented on the first night of the Creative Arts Emmys on September 7.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes,” Glaser said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite nights in television and now I have a front-row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes are not only a great night for TV and film, but for comedy as well. It’s one of the few times that showbiz not only allows, but encourages, being fondly mocked (at least I hope so). (God, I hope so.) It’s an exciting and challenging job because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who might also get drunk while sitting next to their recent exes).”
Glaser continued: “Some of my all-time favorite jokes have come from opening monologues at past Golden Globes when Tina, Amy or Ricky [Gervais] “They have said exactly what we didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue that esteemed tradition (which might also get me cancelled). This is truly a dream job.”
“Nikki Glaser brings unmatched candor and style to her comedy and to the Golden Globes,” Jay Penske, president and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation, said in a statement. “Her irreverent style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host of this year’s event. We hope this can be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the world.”
“Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose bold, unfiltered humor is the perfect fit for the Golden Globes,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep audiences entertained all night long.”
The Golden Globes, the first major show of awards season, is often called “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.” It is the biggest awards show celebrating the best in film and television. Multiple Emmy-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment will return as executive producers and showrunners for the 82nd Golden Globes. Dick Clark Productions will plan, present and produce the annual gala.
CBS’s telecast of the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 7, 2024, which was hosted by comedian Jo Koy, averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings), an increase of nearly +50% over last year and its largest audience since 2020. It was also the third most-tuned-in to CBS special event live on Paramount+ in terms of AMAs and reach.
The deadline to submit film and TV nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes is Monday, November 4. Nominations will be announced on Monday, December 9.
In addition to airing live on CBS, the show will be available to watch on Paramount+ in the United States (live and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with Showtime, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the broadcast).
Penske Media Eldridge — a joint venture between Billboard parent company Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge — owns Dick Clark Productions, the producer of the Golden Globes.
