Selena Gomez gives his best in a new preview of Emilia Perezreleased Monday (August 26) ahead of the film’s arrival on Netflix this fall.
In the nearly two-minute clip, fans can see the 32-year-old singer and actress staring into the camera, breaking down in tears and lying on a blanket with her fictional family as they gaze at the stars. All the while, someone — presumably lead actress Karla Sofia Gascon, who plays the title character in the film — sings softly, whispering in Spanish.
“Half rich, half poor/ Half boss, half queen,” the voice can be heard singing, as Gomez walks out in slow motion and the word “queen” appears on the screen. “Half here, half there/ Half dead, half alive/ Half in, half out/ Everything, nothing.”
After a quick sequence of dance numbers led by Gomez and her co-stars, gunshots and blood, the teaser ends with a close-up of the Rare Beauty founder calmly exhaling, eyes closed. Also starring Zoe Saldana, who appears throughout the trailer, the film follows a Mexican drug lord (Gascón) embracing her true identity as a woman.
Following its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where Gomez and her co-stars collectively received the Best Actress award, Emilia Perez was released in French cinemas on August 21. Viewers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom will finally be able to watch the Jacques Audiard-directed musical on Netflix on November 13.
Ahead of the film’s French release, the “Love On” singer posted a throwback video on August 19 of herself reacting to the news that she had been cast in Emilia Perez“I can’t believe I got the movie, I’m going to cry right now,” she says in the clip, barely managing to hold back her tears. “I don’t want to cry… This is going to be so great.”
