This September, Netflix is set to release its latest romantic comedy series, Nobody Wants This, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. The show, premiering on September 26, promises to be a fresh take on modern relationships, blending humor with heartfelt moments.
Nobody Wants This follows the unexpected connection between Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, and Noah, portrayed by Adam Brody. Joanne is an agnostic podcast host, while Noah is a rabbi, making their relationship a unique exploration of differing life views. Their chance meeting at a party sets the stage for a romance filled with challenges, primarily stemming from their distinct beliefs and the involvement of their well-meaning but often meddlesome families.
The series boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Justine Lupe as Joanne’s sister Morgan and Timothy Simons as Noah’s brother Sasha. These characters add depth and complexity to the narrative, sometimes supporting the central romance and other times creating hurdles that Joanne and Noah must overcome. The ensemble cast also features Stephanie Faracy, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Michael Hitchcock, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Bearman, each adding their unique flair to the series.
The official synopsis highlights the core of the show: “An agnostic podcast host and an unconventional rabbi on the rebound walk into a party. When they walk out – together – the unlikely pair, Joanne and Noah, can tell there is something between them. But also potentially between them, with their differing outlooks on life and all of the modern obstacles to love, are their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families – including her sister Morgan and his brother Sasha.”
The series was created by Erin Foster, who drew inspiration from her own life experiences. Foster, who also serves as a co-showrunner alongside Craig DiGregorio, wanted to create a story that touches on the complexities of relationships without making overt political statements about religion. In her words, “This show is based on the only good decision I ever made: falling for a nice Jewish boy. I realized that being happy is way harder than being miserable — there’s nothing to complain about. So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard.”
All ten episodes of Nobody Wants This will be available on Netflix starting September 26. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions. Executive producers include Steven Levitan, Kristen Bell, Sara Foster, Danielle Stokdyk, Jeff Morton, Jack Burditt, and Oly Obst for 3arts.
This series is expected to resonate with viewers who enjoy a mix of humor, romance, and relatable relationship struggles, all wrapped in a lighthearted, entertaining package. As the trailer suggests, Nobody Wants This might just be the perfect binge-watch for those looking for a fresh, witty, and heartwarming rom-com.
