(CNN) – On this opening Sunday of the 2024 NFL season, the NFL announced that Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar will close as the halftime performer at Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“Rap music remains the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They picked the right guy,” Lamar said in the NFL’s press release.
Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, who helps produce the NFL halftime show, praised Lamar’s qualities.
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a one-of-a-kind artist and performer,” Carter said. “His deep love of hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unmatched ability to define and influence culture on a global level. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
