While Omar Apollo Known for stealing hearts with his songs, the singer says his next movie role will see him stealing the scene alongside a former 007 agent.
In a story published by Interview MagazineApollo interviewed Drew Starkey, co-star of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film, QueerAt one point, when the pair began discussing their respective diets for the film, Apollo revealed that he filmed a sex scene with actor Daniel Craig.
“I had to go on the soup diet. Luca didn’t tell me to lose weight, but when you’re about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you’re like, ‘Oh man, I can’t look bad,’” Apollo said. “I was 200 pounds, because I’m 6’5″ … but I was down to 181 by the time the movie came around. I lost 20 pounds because I read in the script that my character had a flat, tan stomach. I was like, ‘Damn, I’m not really flat now. ’ I had to get in shape, and I was on tour with SZA. Luckily, I didn’t have a lot of lines.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Apollo spoke glowingly about the star of James Bond and Knives Outsaying it helped calm his nerves before his big scene. “I had a really cool experience with him… I remember asking him, ‘How do you feel when the camera is on?’ And he said, ‘To be honest, every time the camera is on me, I’m terrified,’” Apollo revealed. “I thought that was beautiful. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be open to these emotions. It was such an honest answer.”
Queer is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs. It follows the story of William Lee (Craig), an American expatriate living in Mexico City in the 1940s who falls madly in love with a younger man (Starkey). Apollo’s specific role in the film has not yet been revealed.
