Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
Fans of the beloved “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise have been waiting over 25 years for Eddie Murphy to reprise his iconic role as the brash and hilarious Detroit cop Axel Foley. Their patience is finally being rewarded with the upcoming release of “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” streaming on Netflix on July 3, 2024.
The new film catches up with Axel decades after the events of the previous movies. After his daughter Jane’s life is threatened, the now wisecracking police lieutenant teams up with a new partner and some old pals to uncover a dangerous conspiracy in Beverly Hills.
Bringing Back the Classic Cast
One of the most exciting aspects of “Axel F” is the return of several key cast members from the original trilogy. Judge Reinhold is back as Lieutenant Billy Rosewood, along with John Ashton as Sergeant John Taggart after last appearing in “Beverly Hills Cop II” in 1987. Paul Reiser also reprises his role as Axel’s Detroit partner Jeffrey Friedman from the second film.
In an unexpected but welcome surprise, even Bronson Pinchot is returning as the quirky arms dealer Serge from “Beverly Hills Cop III”, released way back in 1994. With so many familiar faces, longtime fans are sure to get big nostalgia hits along with all the new laughs.

Fresh Faces Joining the Fun
While the OG “Beverly Hills Cop” crew is back, the film is adding some incredibly talented new stars to the mix as well. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Axel’s new partner in the Beverly Hills Police Department, Detective Bobby Abbott.
“Abbott is an interesting foil for Axel Foley because he’s by the book,” Gordon-Levitt explains. “Axel, of course, is constantly cutting corners and doing things his way. There’s a fun dynamic between the two of them.”
Taylour Paige takes on the role of Jane Saunders, Axel’s estranged daughter who works as a criminal defense attorney in Beverly Hills. With her life in jeopardy, Jane reluctantly lets her hotheaded dad back into her world to help solve the case.
Rounding out the main cast is Kevin Bacon as the Beverly Hills police captain overseeing the increasingly chaotic investigation that Axel is disrupting left and right with his trademark antics.
An Action-Packed Return to Form
While remaining true to the franchise’s roots with plenty of laugh-out-loud humor, “Axel F” is also ramping up the intense action and thrills. Director Mark Molloy brings a fresh modern vision, delivering wildly entertaining set pieces and stunts.
“We were able to push the envelope in some amazing ways, partly thanks to advancements in filmmaking technology,” Molloy reveals. “This movie is an absolute blast from start to finish.”
The film’s production has already wrapped after shooting last summer in Los Angeles and other California locations. Now it’s just a matter of months until Netflix subscribers can stream “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and welcome back one of comedy’s most beloved characters.
With a perfect blend of familiar faces, new talent, cutting humor, and edge-of-your-seat excitement, “Axel F” looks primed to be a worthy new chapter in the classic 80s franchise. The heat is being turned up for Axel Foley’s big return to Beverly Hills.
